How to Hang Eyelet Curtains

How to Hang Eyelet Curtains

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Eyelet curtains
  • Curtain pole or track
  • Curtain rings (if needed, but often eyelets fit directly on the pole)
  • Drill and screws (if installing a new curtain pole)
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Level
  • Step ladder (if needed)
  • Screwdriver

Steps:

  1. Measure the Window:

    • Measure the width and height of your window to determine the appropriate size of the curtain pole or track. Generally, the pole should extend beyond the window frame by a few inches on each side.
  2. Install the Curtain Pole/Track:

    • Mark the position of the curtain pole brackets on the wall. Use a pencil to make light marks where the screws will go.
    • Drill holes into the wall where you’ve marked, insert wall plugs (if necessary), and then screw in the brackets.
    • Ensure the brackets are level before tightening the screws completely.
  3. Prepare the Curtains:

    • If your eyelet curtains aren’t already fitted with rings, you’ll need to slide them directly onto the pole. Make sure the curtains are evenly distributed along the pole.
  4. Hang the Curtains:

    • Lift the pole with the curtains attached and place it onto the installed brackets. Ensure it’s secure and level.
    • If using a curtain track with eyelets, slide the curtains onto the track and then secure the track according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  5. Adjust and Finalize:

    • Make any necessary adjustments to ensure the curtains hang evenly. You might need to adjust the position of the pole slightly or ensure that the curtains are evenly distributed.
  6. Test and Enjoy:

    • Open and close the curtains a few times to ensure they move smoothly and make any final adjustments as needed.

Tips:

  • Check for Level: Use a level tool to ensure that the curtain pole or track is installed straight; this helps the curtains hang properly.
  • Curtain Length: Make sure the length of the curtains is appropriate for your window. If they’re too long, you might need to hem them.
